A Phishing Attack Hits During Lunch. Da-Com Had It Contained Before Entrees Arrived.

alerts Da-Com has found to be false or “noise”

Right as Jon Hansen stepped into a diner for lunch, his phone buzzed. He glanced down, expecting another meeting invite. Instead, it was a text alert from Huntress.

Seconds later, his phone rang. One of his clients had just been locked out of their email account after clicking what looked like a routine message from a trusted vendor.

For a lot of managed service providers (MSPs), that’s when the day goes sideways. But not for Da-Com IT Pros.

“We were taking our team out to lunch for the holidays,” says Hansen, Director of IT and Services at Da-Com. “Right as we stepped inside the restaurant, I got a message from Huntress.”

What happened next is exactly why Da-Com takes security so seriously.

Challenge | So much noise, but not enough clarity

As Da-Com saw cyber threats growing more sophisticated, they realized their existing endpoint security tools weren’t giving the team the clarity they needed.

“At Da-Com, we are always looking at ways to evolve our security stack to stay up to date with current threats,” says Hansen.

Their previous endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution technically worked, but it generated a steady stream of alerts, many of them false positives.

“It was very, very noisy,” says Hansen. “Simple applications that our customers use on a daily basis were being detected as odd behaviors or just random alerts.”

Oftentimes, Da-Com’s technicians were investigating issues that went nowhere. It became clear Da-Com needed a solution that could.

  • Minimize alert fatigue
  • Provide clear context behind threats

  • Enable faster, more confident response

Solution | A layered approach for when things go sideways

In 2023, Da-Com first implemented Huntress Managed EDR. Not long after, as identity-based attacks became more common—especially business email compromise—they added Managed Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR).

“You can give somebody all the training in the world,” Hansen says. “But when they get an email from a familiar person, natural human behavior is to click that link.”

Together, those tools help Da-Com monitor both endpoint behavior and suspicious activity inside Microsoft 365 environments. Huntress gives Da-Com validated alerts, threat context, and full support from the Huntress Security Operations Center (SOC)—a 24/7 team of elite threat analysts backed by AI.

“The biggest benefit is the level of confidence that the team has when they see a Huntress alert,” Hansen says. “It allows our team to act quickly and decisively rather than wasting time chasing noise.”

The Huntress SOC also acts as an extension of Da-Com’s security team. “The really cool thing the SOC does is they don’t just solve the problem in front of them,” Hansen says. “They provide context and easy-to-follow remediations.”

Results | Faster response, clearer action, stronger client trust

With Huntress in place, Da-Com changed how it responds to cyber threats.

Take the phishing incident during Hansen’s lunch outing. A client clicked a fraudulent DocuSign link and entered their credentials. Before the issue could spread, Huntress detected the activity, and the SOC immediately alerted Da-Com. From there, the response moved quickly.

“We’re going to get this fixed,” Hansen told his client. “You’ll be up and running in five minutes or less.”

Working in collaboration with the Huntress SOC, the account was secured, credentials were reset, and the client was back to work shortly after.

Today, Da-Com delivers stronger security outcomes across a range of environments. Key results include:

  • Faster incident response with validated alerts and clear remediation guidance
  • Less time wasted investigating false positives
  • More confidence in alerts, allowing technicians to act immediately

  • Stronger client relationships by turning incidents into teachable moments

  • Better visibility across endpoints and identities to catch threats earlier

Da-Com knows most security incidents start small: an email that looks legitimate, a link that seems routine, a brief moment of human error. Those moments are inevitable. What matters is how fast you catch them and how well you respond.

With Huntress and the SOC acting as an extension of their team, Da-Com can detect threats earlier, respond faster, and keep clients protected.

“Cybersecurity is no longer optional,” says Hansen. “Our clients expect strong protection and rapid response when something happens.”

Whether an alert comes in during lunch or in the middle of the night, Da-Com is ready.

The biggest benefit is the level of confidence that the team has when they see a Huntress alert. It allows our team to act quickly and decisively rather than wasting time chasing noise.
